There is a lot of action in the landscape in September, especially since we got some rain and the temperatures have cooled. We have discussed the fall vegetables, autumn lawn care, hosting the monarch butterfly migration, the lingering summer flowers and the expected winter annuals. Switch from summer to winter annuals I haven’t seen any of the ruby-throated hummingbirds that other gardeners are reporting along with the resident, black-chinned hummers, but they are expected along with the less predictable rufous hummingbird migrants. Bring them to your landscape by offering sugar water feeders and nectar sources such as firebush and porter weed on the patio.
