The San Diego County Bar Association and the Wills for Heroes Foundation will partner to offer the services for first responders

Attorneys will prepare wills and estate documents for free for law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics and health care workers in San Diego and Imperial counties Oct. 17 through Nov. 14. The San Diego County Bar Association and the national Wills for Heroes Foundation will partner to prepare wills, advance health care directives and durable powers of attorney for property. The annual Wills for Heroes program started in South Carolina after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The program switched to a virtual setup in 2020 after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 'The Wills for Heroes program aims to give first responders and their families the peace of mind they deserve for the sacrifices they make every day to serve and protect our community,' the bar association said in a statement. The list of eligible participants includes correctional and probation officers, doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and pharmacists.
