BREAKING: A man suspected of attempted murder near Worcester led Mass. troopers on a chase on highways around Boston before being stopped Thursday night.
A man suspected of attempted murder led police on a chase for miles across the Boston area Thursday night that ended with him seriously injuring himself and being taken into police custody, authorities said.
The police chase ended when Massachusetts State Police deflated his tires and boxed him in on Interstate 93 in Milton, the agency said Friday. Armed with a knife, the man allegedly cut himself, leaving him with serious injuries that send him to Boston Medical Center for treatment. State police didn't say what Mark T. Donahue is suspected of doing in the alleged murder attempt, which took place in Marlborough, east of Worcester. Troopers began chasing Donahue in his 2022 Toyota Highlander SUV in Weston, on State Route 20, then followed him as he drove onto I-95, then I-93, police said, noting that he was suspected of having a knife.
The chase ended shortly after 10:15 p.m., when the SUV drove over stop stick tire-deflation devices that troopers had put on I-93, allowing cruisers to box the vehicle in south of the highway's Granite Avenue exit, police said. A number of police vehicles and an ambulance were seen on I-93 north, causing a traffic backup.Donahue was found inside the SUV with"serious, suspected self-inflicted lacerations," police said in a statement, and he was taken out for first aid.
