WIT Studio brought Attack on Titan to global popularity as its first major anime production, but it has stayed a phenomenal studio even after handing their first project to MAPPA. They've covered the gauntlet of shonen treats like Spy x Family to generational seinen like Vinland Saga, but their latest shojo project, Agents of the Four Seasons, is among their most gorgeous.
Set to come to Crunchyroll on March 28, 2026, Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring is an adaptation of Kana Akatsuki's light novel-turned-manga series detailing a world where each of its four seasons is brought by Agents using borrowed powers. One such Agent, Hinagiku Kayō, returns after disappearing for 10 years, to return Spring to the Yamato nation. Courtesy of an episode #1 screener provided by Crunchyroll, Screen Rant got to see this moving new anime by WIT Studio, detailing the healing power of spring's warmth and color to a cold and lonely winter. It teases Hinagiku's initial kidnapping and just what her return prompts among her fellow Agents, fittingly for the Spring 2026 anime season. Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring introduces its story in a somber tone steeped in mystery, with armed assailants trying to gun down Hinagiku's protective detail and abduct her. Mild glimpses of her protector, Sakura, and fellow Agent of Winter and his protector are shown, before 10 years pass. Now, in the present, under a cradle of silvery snow, Hinagiku has mysteriously returned from her captivity. She labels it as her needing to bide her time and survive, rather than abandoning those who need her power in the nation of the Yamato archipelago. Hinagiku, acting merely as a non-god Agent of Spring, has the power to restore what it's missing. Still protected by her loyal guard, Sakura Himekada, Hinagiku plans to ascend Ryugu Peak to perform the ritual that'd bring spring back to the land. Agents of the Four Seasons' anime does well in characterizing Hinagiku, her soft-spoken demeanor conveying the loss of being separated from loved ones, and the power of renewal brought by her return. It's not until the final moments where fans see WIT Studio's visual prowess carefully guided by Ken Yamamoto, with Kazuhiro Furuhashi, the series explodes in color, bringing a hopeful flourish to complement its earlier melancholia. Agents of the Four Seasons Brings Emotional Payoff by Premiere's End Hinagiku's journey is not one of vengeance against her captors, but a mission of kindness and love. While ascending Ryugu, Hinagiku and Sakura meet Nazuna, whose loss mirrors Hinagiku's own, being too young to even properly remember the warmth of spring despite living in a southern region not naturally prepared for it. The anime begins with Hinagiku using"Life Acceleration" to complete the return of spring with Nazuna as her first witness, while kicking off multiple mysteries, like what happened to her 10 years ago, and whether she can reunite with her first love. This is all teased throughout the episode, as each of the characters' voiceovers relay a mythical premise: In the beginning, there was winter. The world knew no season but winter and winter, unable to bear the solitude, made spring. Spring adored winter, and winter, spring, in a loving cycle. Winter then made summer and autumn. Spring pursued winter, and summer and autumn followed. The Four Seasons settled to their cycle, but spring and winter's honeymoon was no more.The Four Seasons came to bestow that power on certain humans, and winter gained time to love spring forever.In winter, a cradle of silver. As Hinagiku's return is witnessed by onlookers, some of the key observers are those who directly witnessed her kidnapping by that terrorist organization 10 years ago. It's clear that this danger has not gone away completely in that time, and that Hinagiku's return was absolutely necessary. Realistically, this shouldn't come as a shock at all for fans of the series. Knowing Kana Akatsuki's previous work, Violet Evergarden, Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring was bound to be a moving distillation of loss, isolation, trauma, and rebirth just as it intended. Seeing Hinagiku revitalize spring is wildly cathartic despite only happening over one episode's runtime. But at some point this shouldn't be a surprise. Even more divisive output from WIT Studio like Vampire in the Garden threw down its emotional beats with powerful efficiency. With Spring 2026's anime season on the horizon, it's only fitting that an anime which kicks off by restoring hope and warmth after a long, cold absence, comes as one of its earliest offerings.
