The airport is one of several possible sites the President's administration suggested to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, according to a news report.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent a letter to New York City Mayor Eric Adams this week with a list of 11 federally owned facilities that the city could potential use to relocate some of the more than 60,000 migrants, Bloomberg reported, citing an anonymous source with knowledge of the discussions. The airport in Atlantic County was among the facilities on the list.

So far, the city has set the migrants up in more than 200 makeshift shelters, commercial hotels, office buildings and temporary tents.and hinted migrants be sent to other parts of New York state. Hochul said “we cannot and will not force other parts of our state to shelter migrants, nor are we going to be asking these migrants to move to other parts of the state against their will.”

U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd Dist. — a frequent Biden critic who represents the area in Congress — denounced the idea of using the airport as a shelter for migrants. “My message to President Biden and NYC Mayor Adams is ‘hell no!’” Polistina said in a statement. “Atlantic County residents shouldn’t be forced to pay the price for the Biden Administration’s disastrous handling of our border and the outrageous ‘sanctuary’ state and city policies of Democrats in Washington, New York, Trenton and across the country.”
