It’s Durde’s second interview request during this hiring cycle.
The Seattle Seahawks coaching staff is in high demand for jobs elsewhere. Defensive coordinator Aden Durde has been requested for interview by the Atlanta Falcons, who fired Raheem Morris last week despite a four-game winning streak to end the season.
It’s Durde’s second interview request, with the first one coming from the Cleveland Browns. Atlanta has already interviewed Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who has interviewed or will have interviewed with six of the eight teams in need of a new head coach. Unlike Kubiak, Durde does not call plays, but when you have the No. 1 scoring defense and the best defense by DVOA in the NFL, it’s not like Durde has absolutely zero involvement in Seattle’s success. He also has previous ties to the Falcons, working four seasons under Dan Quinn as defensive quality control and outside linebackers coach. Interviewing Durde also satisfies the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least two minority candidates for a head coaching vacancy. Atlanta has already interviewed Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. In addition to Kubiak and Durde, passing game coordinator Jake Peetz is slated to interview for the vacant Detroit Lions offensive coordinator position.
