An Athens County career center is stepping up security in a big way."Once I found out it was available, it was a no-brainer," said Connie Altier, superintendent of the Tri-County Career Center. "It's an extra layer of security for my staff and students."

It detects weapons before they're either brought into the school or when they're first detected by one of the indoor or outdoor cameras. If the threat is legit, an alert is sent within three to five seconds to school leaders and local law enforcement."There are three key people here in the district that they will not stop calling, texting, trying to get a hold of as soon as it is detected," Altier said.Tri-County Career Center resource Deputy Nick Appleman said he appreciates the extra set of eyes.
