The Atascosa County Sheriff held a press conference on Wednesday concerning two arrests made in connection to the death of a 12-year-old girl on Monday ATASCOSA, Texas - The Atascosa County Sheriff held a press conference on Wednesday concerning two arrests made in connection to the death of a 12-year-old girl on Monday.According to the Atascosa Sheriff , a call was received on Monday night from a woman claiming her daughter had stopped breathing.

Investigators then learned that the girl, identified as Miranda Sipps from Christine, Texas, had sustained a life-threatening injury the Thursday prior and was not tended to by a medical professional. They then learned that the girl had been incapacitated, and was allegedly given smoothies by the suspects to ease symptoms. Four days later, Sipps began having respiratory distress when her mother called deputies.

On Tuesday, Denise Balbaneda, 36, and Gerald Gonzales, 40, Sipp's mother and step-father, were arrested for allegedly failing to seek appropriate medical attention for Sipps until it was too late.The suspects have been charged with Injury to a Child/Causing Serious Bodily Injury by Omission, and are currently being held at the Atascosa County Jail.
