At this year’s LoveLoud Festival — the annual concert celebration for LGBTQ youth in the state of Utah — personal stories drove the night.
The Utah-born event, on a tour to two other cities this year, came back for its fifth iteration at The Delta Center.
On coming out, Archuleta told the crowd, “It’s not always the easiest journey, especially when we come from a background of faith ... when you just finally have the courage to say, you know what, ‘Maybe this is who I am no matter how much I try, and no matter how hard, how long I try to change that, maybe I just have to embrace and learn how to love who I am.’”
“It’s the first time that they’re gonna see it and so for this event to happen, just alone for them to be able to come see me and hear me speak and hear my story,” Meredith said, “That, I hope, is gonna have a really lasting effect.”She added that she was excited to see drag representation at LoveLoud, given what has happened in Utah this year. “One night, I went to a drag queen show and it changed my life forever. For the first time ever, I felt completely safe to be the person I kept hidden for so long,” she said. “I knew I wanted to be a part of the community that had given me such a sense of belonging, so that I in turn, could do the same for others.
