The envoys issued a joint statement following a closed-door meeting of the 15-member council on North Korea after Pyongyang said it had test-fired a new submarine-launched ballistic missile last Wednesday. The discussion was requested by Germany, Britain and France. The European council members described these launches as undermining “regional security and stability, and they are in clear violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.”

North Korea warned the United States, Britain, France and Germany on Monday that raising the issue of Pyongyang’s missile tests at the U.N. Security Council would “further urge our desire to defend our sovereignty.”
