Immediately after Barty’s breathtaking victory, the American Danielle Collins and the Polish player Iga Świątek took over the Rod Laver Arena for a second semifinal showdown that proved to be just as exhilarating, with Collins taking the match in straight sets and now moving on to face Barty in Saturday’s final.
Still, considering her extraordinary run so far, Barty remains the bookies’ favorite to take home the trophy. “Saturday’s going to be a new experience for me,” Barty said. “So I go out there and embrace it, smile, try and do the best that I can, and whatever happens, happens.” If the response from today’s crowd was anything to go by, she has the support of the nation firmly behind her.
