At least 19 people have been killed in three different shootings in less than 48 hours in California, in what a local official described as “tragedy upon tragedy”
The tragedies followed
a mass shooting that killed 11 people in Monterey Park, east of Los Angeles, when a 72-year-old opened fire at a ballroomSpeaking about the latest shooting in Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County supervisor Ray Mueller said: “There were farm workers affected tonight. There were children on the scene at the incidents. This is a truly heartbreaking tragedy in our community.”
The suspect has been identified by police as Chunli Zhao, a 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident. He was arrested after driving to a police car park, apparently attempting to turn himself in, officials said.California Governor, Gavin Newsom, said he was visiting victims of the Monterey Park shooting in hospital when he was alerted to the shooting in Half Moon Bay.
