Authorities said Thursday they were investigating the improper storage of human remains at a southern Colorado funeral home that performs “green” burials without embalming chemicals or metal caskets.
“We are conducting extensive coordination efforts as we focus on the identification of the decedents and provide notifications to ensure the families are given accurate information to prevent further victimization as they continue to grieve their loved ones,” Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller said in a statement.
The magnitude of the investigation prompted the state to activate the Emergency Operations Center to assist with hazardous materials, food and security for workers, and personal protective equipment.last week that he used Return to Nature for his mother’s cremation in June. But representatives of the crematory listed on her death certificate said they couldn’t have performed the cremation.
