WA Police are searching for a man following reports an unknown vessel carrying multiple people landed on the West Australian coastline, also triggering an Australian Defence Force operation.

Police are conducting a “challenging” land search after reports an asylum seeker boat landed in Western Australia ’s remote far north Kimberley region.

The area still functions as a commercial airport and is owners by the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation. Following long standing practices, the reports have not been confirmed by the office of Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil, or by Australian Border Force spokespeople. The statement said the “land search operation is in its preliminary stages and is taking place in an extremely remote area with challenging terrain”.
