The head of Qantas Loyalty, Olivia Wirth, and well-known businessman Gary Weiss are up for election as independent non-executive directors at the upcoming AGM.

Ari Mervis will succeed Myer chairwoman JoAnne Stephenson, who will retire from the department store board at the upcoming annual meeting after seven years as a director and many prickly battles with major shareholder Solomon Lew.

Both have the support of Myer’s largest shareholder, Mr Lew’s Premier Investments which controls nearly 28.8 per cent of the company. The notice of meeting also outlined thatDr Weiss has served on the boards of numerous companies, including The Straits Trading Co Ltd in Singapore and Premier Investments. But he is best known for his more than two decades at corporate raider Guinness Peat Group.

“After seven years on the board, I believe now is the right time for transition to an outstanding new chairman.” Mr Mervis “is the right person to oversee the next stage of Myer’s growth journey”, she said.
