Australian shares are poised to slip modestly from yesterday’s record high above 8000 points when trading opens this morning. ASX futures are down 4 points or 0.1 per cent to 7998 near 7am AEST. The S&P 500 rose 0.3 per cent to close at 5631.22. The Dow Jones Industrial Average notched an all-time closing high at 40,211.72. Shares were higher to start the week in New York with Apple asserting its market-cap dominance. Goldman was higher on solid quarterly results.
” Overnight, Trump named Ohio senator JD Vance as his running mate. All three US benchmarks pared their advances on the news. In comments during an interview at the Economic Club of Washington, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell said second quarter data bolsters confidence that inflation is cooling. He said policy decisions will be made at each policymaker meeting, and he has no plan to signal any decision in advance. The next meeting is set for July 30-31.
