Attorney Tony Buzbee announced Thursday that at least one of the lawsuits filed against rapper Travis Scott, Live Nation and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy have settled.
Buzbee filed the lawsuit on Nov. 16, 2021 on behalf of more than 120 clients, including 21-year-old Axel Acosta, who died at the festival. He said the family of Acosta has reached a settlement and the terms are confidential.The Buzbee Law Firm announced today that the claims brought by the family of Axel Acosta against Travis Scott, Live Nation, and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy have settled. The terms are confidential. Victim Axel Acosta was a beloved son, brother, and student.
Acosta’s father, Edgar Acosta, said he found out about his son’s death through the Internet after trying to contact law enforcement agencies in Houston, according to Buzbee.Buzbee mentioned that Edgar called each hospital in the area, Houston-area authorities, and the medical examiners’ office. He was told his son’s name was not on the list of identified victims.
It was when Edgar and his family found a photo of his son moving around the internet that they were able to locate it.Tony Buzbee released the following statement regarding the Medical Examiner findings: “Today Harris County released the cause of death of Axel Acosta, one of the ten victims who died at the Astroworld concert. Axel’s cause of death is listed as “compression asphyxia.” The report confirms what the family already knew, which is that Axel was crushed and killed that night by the crowd, through no fault of his own. It is also important to note that Axel’s blood contained absolutely no intoxicants or other like substances.
Officials said there were about 50,000 people in attendance at the festival during the time of the incident.
