Astros' José Abreu sat out Wednesday’s series finale against the Mets and did not...
LOS ANGELES — José Abreu was absent from the Astros’ lineup for a second straight game Friday in what he and manager Dusty Baker termed a temporary hiatus for the first baseman.
Baker said he originally planned to rest Abreu on Friday, after the team’s off day, then sat Abreu against the Mets on shorter notice. Both said the plan is for Abreu to return to the lineup Saturday. Abreu appeared to be warming in early June, as he hit .327 with three home runs over its first 12 games. But he followed that by going 3-for-23 with 10 strikeouts in his last six games on the homestand.
