Astros parade surges Metro rail ridership to third-highest one day total ever

People leveled up rail use to 105,000 trips, only topped by 2017 parade and Super Bowl LI

People heading to thepushed Metropolitan Transit Authority train use to 105,000 trips, according to the agency. Only the 2017 victory parade, which drew a 125,000 people to light rail, and the 114,000 riders for Super Bowl LI led to higher daily totals. In September, light rail use averaged 44,693 trips daily, meaning Monday's use was 2.3 times normal.

Just because it was big, however, didn't make it easy. Trains were jammed with riders as revelers retreated from downtown.So were buses. Metro riders scrambled to find bus stops not affected by downtown detours as parking lots emptied onto streets in the central business district. Along Washington Avenue, Gilbert Martinez, 44, waited for the third bus until there was enough room on Monday afternoon.
