Rookie catcher Yainer Diaz, who has started behind the plate in all but one of Brown’s starts, went 2-for-3 with a double and threw out two runners trying to steal second base. Yordan Alvarez was responsible for Houston’s only other hit as the team hit 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Astros gifted them with another chance in the top of the ninth, when reliever Ronel Blanco walked the bases loaded with one out. Pederson grounded into a 3-6-3 double play, granting the Astros one last frame to attempt a comeback. They could not accomplish it.After Pederson’s first-inning RBI hit, Brown retired the next seven batters he faced.
