Michael Brantley, out following shoulder surgery, could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend in Sugar Land.Astros general manager Dana Brown said Tuesday that outfielder Michael Brantley could begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Class AAA Sugar Land as soon as Sunday.
Brantley underwent surgery on his right shoulder this offseason and has been recovering at the Astros’ complex in Florida. He has been taking swings and live batting practice with good results, according to Brown and manager Dusty Baker, and a rehab assignment represents a potential final step before Brantley is ready to rejoin the Astros.
Brown said the team will evaluate Brantley after his first rehab appearance to determine the next steps, but had previously saidSunday is the final day of a six-game homestand for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, who then go on the road for 12 games and do not play again at Constellation Field until May 9.
