The Houston star second baseman is scheduled to see Astros doctors at the team's spring...

Dusty Baker says Jose Altuve's return to the Astros 'could be a while' after the star got hit by a pitch during Team Venezuela's WBC loss against the United States on Saturday.WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — While the extent of Jose Altuve's right hand injury remains uncertain, manager Dusty Baker acknowledged on Sunday it"could be a while" before Altuve is able to return to the Astros.

Batting in the fifth inning and behind in the count 1-2, Altuve got hit in the right hand by a 95.9 mph fastball from Colorado Rockies reliever Daniel Bard. Bard, who has a history of control issues, did not retire any of the four batters he saw. He walked a batter and threw a wild pitch before even plunking Altuve. Bard finished his outing with two walks and two wild pitches.

"But I never thought that he's going to come with a pitch inside up and in to Jose in that situation. Unfortunately, Jose wasn't able to kind of recognize right away, and then when he went down, obviously the whole dugout didn't look good."
