Houston Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans throws out a ceremonial first pitch before an MLB game between the Houston Astros and the Chicago Cubs on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Minute Maid Park in Houston.Astros manager Dusty Baker said third baseman Alex Bregman “has been hitting the ball good with nothing to show for it.”
Bregman finished 2-for-4 in also drilling a ball off the left-field wall for an extra-hard single in the fifth inning. The Astros are one quarter into the season at 41 games, and Bregman bumped his batting average from .204 to .212 on Monday night. First baseman José Abreu also had half as many hits in one home game as he did in the previous nine road games, and his two-RBI double in the first inning helped get the Astros rolling to their fifth win in their last six games.
Abreu was 2-for-3 with a walk against the Cubs, after going 4-for-29 on the Astros’ road trip against the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox.
