The Astros made a minor trade with the Reds during the teams’ series, acquiring righthanded reliever Joel Kuhnel from Cincinnati for cash considerations Saturday.
Kuhnel, 28, has a 6.20 ERA in 69 major-league outings since 2019. He posted a 6.36 ERA in 53 games with the Reds in 2022 and pitched twice for Cincinnati this season before being designated for assignment earlier this week., who had flexor tendon surgery Tuesday and will not pitch this season, to the 60-day injured list to create a 40-man roster spot for Kuhnel, who was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.
