Astros 7, Pirates 0: Houston's bats, arms do the job for blowout win in series finale
PITTSBURGH, PA - APRIL 12: Corey Julks #9 of the Houston Astros celebrates after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-0 during inter-league play at PNC Park on April 12, 2023 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.PITTSBURGH — The Astros won their first series of the season and inched closer to .500 with a 7-0 shutout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park.
University of Houston product and Friendswood native Corey Julks crushed his first major league home run in the fourth inning, widening the Astros’ lead to two and igniting a celebration inside their dugout. Julks entered the game with just one other extra-base hit in his first 30 big league at-bats. He hit 31 home runs at Class AAA Sugar Land last season, but — like most rookies — has struggled somewhat in his adjustment to major league pitching.
