The former City Council member faces opposition from a deputy city attorney to replace termed-out Mara Elliott.
State Assemblymember Brian Maienschein announced Monday that he’s running for San Diego city attorney in 2024, when incumbent Mara Elliott will be forced to leave office because of term limits.
The only other candidate to have officially entered the race is Heather Ferbert, a San Diego deputy city attorney with expertise in preventing evictions and opening homeless shelters.Heather Ferbert has expertise in preventing evictions and opening homeless shelters. One of her top competitors is expected to be Assemblymember Brian Maienschein.
City attorney is expected to be among the most competitive city elections in 2024 because it’s the only city race of seven on the ballot that won’t feature an incumbent.The race is expected to become the city’s most competitive 2024 race and to draw several more candidates, including a Republican.
