My sister, who was the executor of our mother’s will, says that two weeks before our mother died , Mom said that she was thinking of changing the will to include everyone — her children and stepchildren. Should we children that inherited the entire estate split the inheritance with the stepchildren?
I also assume that you and your siblings might not agree with the idea of sharing the estate. It is their right to hold onto their legal inheritance, just as you have the right to share yours. My point is that you and your siblings should make an effort to recognize your stepsiblings’ desire to inherit property that belonged to their father before the marriage. But your effort to do the right thing might not change any negative dynamic between you.
