Cases in the United States rose with California and Florida among 12 states hitting record-breaking, seven-day averages for daily new cases, a CNBC analysis showed.
Futures pointed to a slightly lower open in Asia Pacific on Friday, following a mixed overnight on Wall Street where coronavirus concerns pushed investors into tech stocks.
SPI futures traded 0.4% lower at 5,896, pointing to a decline in Australia's benchmark ASX 200 that closed on Thursday at 5,955.50. Nikkei futures also pointed to a lower open in Japan, where the benchmark index finished up 0.4% at 22,529.29 in the previous session.
