Ashtabula County in Ohio downgrades its Level 3 Snow Emergency to a Level 1, yet significant challenges remain with more than 30 inches of snow in some areas and up to 50 inches in others. Crews continue round-the-clock efforts to clear the roads after multiple accidents on I-90 eastbound.

Published: Dec. 3, 2024 at 5:49 AM EST ASHTABULA COUNTY , Ohio - The Level 3 Snow Emergency was downgraded to a Level 1 Snow Emergency Monday evening; however, there are still some roads that have not been plowed.

19 News crews encountered multiple accidents on I-90 eastbound Tuesday afternoon heading towards Conneaut. Ashtabula County received more than 30 inches of snow since Thursday night. Some areas seeing up to 50 inches.In the city of Ashtabula, public and private crews are working round-the-clock to clear the roads.

Ashtabula city officials said besides Ohio Department of Transportation workers, three contractors with equipment have been brought in to move the snow. “Our trucks are having an extremely difficult time with the weight and amounts of snow. ODOT and the contractors listed have been a tremendous help with their much larger equipment, however, loader work takes more time to clear,” posted Ashtabula city officials on Facebook.Garbage pickup in Ashtabula is suspended until further notice; however, Ashtabula City Hall and the health department will re-open Tuesday, Dec. 3.
