The 28-year-old was found in the yard with a 'catastrophic' gunshot wound to the abdomen
James Witham, 41, has admitted driving to Ashley's home in Leinster Road, Old Swan, and barging through the front door shortly after 12.30am on August 21 last year. Witham accepts shooting a Skorpion sub-machine gun in her house but told a jury he believed her home was empty and did not see her when he opened fire.
Liverpool Crown Court has heard that her boyfriend and alleged target, Lee Harrison, was out in the city centre at the time. Witham told the jury that he saw Harrison "with a group of girls" in the city centre on a Snapchat story and assumed Ashley was with them. Mr Pratt asked why he decided to drive to Leinster Road. Witham said: "I just thought I’m gonna go and make Lee, show a warning to this Lee. He’s ruined my life for the last couple of years, robbing me all the time, belittling me basically."
