Dairy is said to be 'at the sharp end' of food and drink price increases
Four out of the six main supermarkets have seen price rises on basics this week as the cost of milk continues to soar.
The main one is the cost of milk, which has risen at Aldi, Asda, Lidl and Sainsbury's, from £1.15 for a two-pint bottle, to £1.25.Morrisons had already raised its milk to the same price and while Tesco has so far kept its down at £1.15, its Aldi Price Match will likely mean it increases there too. In fact over the past year, milk prices have soared by two-thirds, with British magazine The Grocer declaring that 'dairy is at the sharp end of food and drink price increases, with milk leading the charge'.
Milk isn't the only increase in this week's comparison though. Lidl, which is still working out cheapest for the full shopping basket at £10.37, has increased the price of its coffee from £1.69 to £1.89. And Sainsbury's has put the price of its budget beans up from 21p a tin to 25p.
