'Cleveland is the last stop and I want to hang out with my mom.'
FIlter heads out on the road starting today for a spring tour through March and April alongside Finger Eleven and Local H that culminates with a hometown show at the House of Blues. We caught up with Richard Patrick to talk about last year’s album, Filter’s new album, his new band’s upcoming work and more.
Scene: You released The Algorithm Ultra Edition last year with re-imagined cuts from the 2023 Algorithm album including nine additional tracks. Why did you feel the need to update the album? Richard: It was our first record on my label, No Pulse. We had falling outs with other record companies we worked within the past. I wanted to spruce it up and put additional songs on it. This is the right version that I intended to make for my fans. I believe that the audiences deserve as much music as I can give them, so I packed it with remixes. It was done for the fun of it — give additional music to the audience as we could.I always loved this song. When it came out, U2 was so unique in themselves. The song was done as close to the original as possible. I played all the instruments on the track. I tried to resing the song like Bono had done. I bought a new computer and wanted to learn Logic Pro X. I learned this song as a kid back home in Cleveland. When I was 16, record companies turned me down saying you sound like Bono and U2. I was so bummed out by this. My buddy brought over a Ministry album and I got into industrial music that day. Six months later I was in Nine Inch Nails. All The Good and The Drowning are my favorites. I wrote The Drowning in like five minutes using different parts of my computer for the bridge and middle section of the cord and came up with this amazing rhythm. My range on this song is crazy. There are two things: One, a new Filter album, The Antidote in fall 2026. Two, a new band, A Place To Kill with Jim Louvau and an album titled “ The Killing Fields.” The band is super industrial. I am really proud of it. The album will be out June 3rd or 4th. It’s inspired by the apocalyptic world we are now living in. All the insanity going on with war. This is how we vent. Do you feel you have fully recovered from your back surgery last year ? Any limitations that you still have? That tour is with Finger Eleven and Local H, and closes with a show at the House of Blues on April 1. Are you the headliner? Three great bands, but Filter is the headliner. It will be a great show. They are all amazing to perform with. Cleveland is the last stop and I want to hang out with my mom.Photos: CMA Celebrated Women’s History Month and the 1980s with MIX – Material GirlConcert Photos: Gogol Bordello Energetically Crosses Genres at the House of Blues
