Days after trading Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, the Nets have reportedly agreed to a deal that sends superstar forward Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns. On his way out of Brooklyn, bound for another superteam surely too big to fail, Keven Durant reminded me of Broadway.
At the moment, it’s impossible to know how long it will take the Brooklyn Nets to make something out of the gaping concrete shell left by Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and their ludicrously disastrous partnership. Someday, all three will be in the Hall of Fame. Together, they managed to win one measly playoff series.
If anything, the Spurs stood Thursday as the NBA’s overly cautious, anti-Brooklyn, anti-all-in standard-bearers. Their current strategy, apparently, is to not commit to anything or anyone unless they’re absolutely sure they can help them three or four years from now.
