Hundreds filter through Hemisfair Park where dozens of booths selling Fiesta pins line the sidewalk on the opening day of Fiesta 2022 on Thursday. With Fiesta fast approaching, medical practitioners in San Antonio and Bexar County want would-be revelers to keep one thing in mind: COVID-19 is still out there.made its debut, infectious disease specialist Dr. Jason Bowling said the novel coronavirus continues to circulate in the community. Out of sight should not translate into out of mind.

“COVID activity right now is really low in our San Antonio area, which is fantastic. It’s the lowest it’s been in months,” Bowling said. “Our test positivity rate is down to 1.3%.”San Antonio’s best rated spots for chicken on a stick Bowling and another local physician, Dr. Fred Campbell, said their attention is concentrated on BA.2, a descendant of omicron that, like its predecessor, is more contagious but not necessarily more dangerous than earlier variants. Currently, BA.2 is the dominant strain of the novel coronavirus in San Antonio, according to Bowling.

Bowling recommends prospective attendees make a risk assessment and take measures to protect themselves accordingly. Such measures could include masking and maintaining good hand hygiene. Steering clear of indoor events as much as possible might also be advisable.

“Indoors,” he added, “you really have to assume you’re going to get an infection if you’re near other people.”
