Operation Kindness will open a hub in 2024 in West Dallas near Dallas Animal Services to offer its help and expertise.

MeLissa Webber, Dallas Animal Services director and Operation Kindness CEO Ed Jamison play with Handsome at Dallas Animal Services in Dallas, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023.It’s been a grueling year for animal shelters in North Texas, including the one here in Dallas. We told you in July that, and as we enter the fall, that’s still true. The shelter had more than 400 dogs as of Friday and was at 147% capacity.

to provide forensic services for animal cruelty investigations. Now Operation Kindness has announced that it’s opening a hub in early 2024 in West Dallas, leasing a building that is a stone’s throw away from Dallas Animal Services.“When this building became a possibility, we jumped on it,” said Ed Jamison, CEO of Operation Kindness and a former head of DAS.

Some groups need help with health certificates to be able to transfer animals to other states. Operation Kindness meets Hearts & Bones twice a month in the DAS parking lot to do health certificates, Jamison said. “They pulled a couple of hundred of animals [from DAS] in the last couple of months simply because we were able to provide that service,” he said. “Once we have this building, that’s just an example of a service we’ll be able to provide to partners…that are committed to get more animals out.”

Jamison estimates that Operation Kindness and its three main collaborators will get at least 1,000 more animals out of DAS a year once the West Dallas hub is up and running.Being so physically close to DAS will also help Operation Kindness “immensely” when it needs to provide forensic veterinary services for animal cruelty investigations, Jamison said.
