Fans should expect a newly enriched Prescott to be under center for the Cowboys next season.
In separate press conferences on opening day of training camp, Prescott and Jones share their views on where things stand on the quarterbacks contract.Owner Jerry Jones could have said he expects Prescott to be the Cowboys’ quarterback beyond the 2024 season and stopped right there. But he didn’t.
So I understand that, on this one topic, anyway, many of you will align with Jerry and suggest that Dak simply is not worth it. The problem you get into is that the club will, sometime in the next 12 months, make CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons something close to the two highest paid non-quarterbacks in the league.
So it’s strange to think of Prescott in the middle of his career heading off to play for Las Vegas or the Giants or whichever team might be seeking immediate quarterback help in 2025. Most of those other quarterbacks mentioned moved on much closer to the tail end of their careers, save for Brees who was dealt to New Orleans before he had begun to make his mark in San Diego. But Jerry talking as if this is something he has reckoned with before? That can apply only to his first 40 years.
