Despite reaching the final of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League final, where they ultimately lost out to Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Kaizer Chiefs played no continental football this season after ending the last DStv Premiership campaign in eighth position.
With six matches remaining for the season, and the title race officially out of their hands, Chiefs' focus has now shifted towards securing a spot on the continent next season and interim coach Arthur Zwane is desperate to make this season. "Any change will cause a little bit of disruption because firstly, we are trying to change the style of play," Zwane said, in reference to his appointment after Stuart Baxter's sacking last week Thursday.
"Secondly, it will affect individuals. Either they will adapt to the way we want to play as a club or we must have an identity where, when we go out to look for players, those players must fit into our system and understand what is expected of them."It might take some time but we are hoping that come next season, we should be ready to compete with the rest because that's what we are trying to do right now.
"We tasted that glory a little bit [last season] so we want to go back and conquer the African continent and be one of the best teams on the continent."
