AKRON, Ohio – If you’re going out for New Year’s, do you have a designated driver? The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office has partnered with Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree for the Arrive Alive program, which offers free and reduced-fare rides home in Summit County for the New Year’s holiday. The program covers up to $20 of the ride-share service LYFT for individuals who have had too much to drink. The program offers 600 free and reduced-fare rides from Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. to Jan. 2, 2025 at noon, according to a news release. To redeem the offer, enter the code SUMMITNYE25 in the LYFT app. The goal of the program is to give people a safe ride option that prevents them from drinking alcohol and then getting behind the wheel. Former Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh launched the program for the July 4, 2018, holiday weekend to help keep impaired drivers off the road. Since then, the program has expanded to offer free and reduced-fare rides to more than 5,000 people for St. Patrick’s Day, July Fourth, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, according to the prosecutor’s office
