Visitors to the zoo will likely be able to visit the new gorillas in a few weeks, once they’re introduced to their outdoor public habitat after they clear quarantine.
Nadaya, 22, is one of three adult gorillas joining the Woodland Park Zoo.SEATTLE — The Woodland Park Zoo announced the addition of three adult western lowland gorillas Monday, who will form a new family group at the zoo.
Olympia, 26, and Jamani, 22, are both females from the North Carolina Zoo. Nadaya, 22, a male gorilla also known as a silverback, arrived from the Saint Louis Zoo. The zoo says it plans for these three gorillas to form a family unit with Jumoke, a 37-year-old female who has been with Woodland Park Zoo since she was born. Jumoke, who has three offspring, has been living alone since her male companion, Vip,“Bringing in a new gorilla is always exciting, but three gorillas moving here at the same time opens up even more possibilities and a new chapter for us at Woodland Park Zoo,” said Martin Ramirez, mammal curator at Woodland Park Zoo.
