PETALING JAYA: Two Rohingya men have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the smuggling of illegal immigrants in the northern and southern part of the country.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen Agency director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the duo were arrested for being activive in human trafficking during an operation code-named Ops Dallal.

The suspect, who has a UNHCR card, is related to a mastermind behind human trafficking activities in the country, he added. "We believe both suspects are connected to the attempt by a boat ferrying Rohingya nationals to enter the country on April 5 near Langkawi waters," he said.
