An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Australian actor who is on the run after allegedly escaping custody. Orpheus Pledger was on remand for an alleged assault against a woman last month, and was set to face court on Tuesday but never showed up.

The 30-year-old had been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital for a court-ordered mental health assessment but is believed to have left overnight. He was supposed to front the Melbourne Magistrates court via video link from hospital on Tuesday to finalise a bail application but his lawyer said Pledger had escaped. The magistrate vented his frustrations telling the court: “I’ll never make an order like that again.
