The victim of Thursday’s shooting was attacked while leaving a synagogue, the ADL said.
A suspect is in custody and a hate crime investigation is underway after two shootings in two days that rattled the Jewish community in the Pico-Robertson area of Los Angeles, police said.
LAPD described the suspect in both shootings as an Asian man with a mustache and a goatee. His name has not been released. Jewish communities nationwide have been on high alert after two men were arrested following threats to synagogues in New York and among a growing trend of hate crimes.“We have been in close contact with religious leaders as well as individual and community organizational stakeholders,” the LAPD said in a statement on Feb. 16. “We are re-allocating police resources to provide a highly visible and preventative presence in the area.
LA Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement, “Those who engage in either will be caught and held fully accountable,” Bass said. “At a time of increased antisemitism, these acts have understandably set communities on edge.
