Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Ritchson's new movie has a release date in the bag. The Man with the Bag is an upcoming holiday action comedy directed by Adam Shankman and written by Allan Rice.
The film features Schwarzenegger as Santa and Ritchson as a former thief named Vance, who is enlisted to help Santa when his iconic magic bag gets stolen. The cast also includes Ken Jeong, Awkwafina, Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, Murray Hill, and Liza Koshy. According to MGM Studios' official X page, The Man with the Bag has been given a release date. The film will hit Prime Video on December 2.
The studio announced this release date alongside a still from the movie and the tagline-like sentence"The only heist that won’t land you on the naughty list.
" The naughty list nod is a reference to a key facet of The Man with the Bag's plot. While looking for someone to help get his bag back, Santa turns to the one place he knows will have a skilled heist-er on it: the naughty list. Whether helping Santa will redeem naughty lister Vance or not remains to be seen. This release date will come at the perfect time for The Man with the Bag.
Early December truly kicks off the Christmas season at the theaters and on streaming, with at home viewers always looking for a new title to watch. December 2 puts its release date right in the sweet spot of time for the festive season but far enough from Christmas itself to avoid major competition. The Man with the Bag's cast will be a big draw for it on streaming.
Ritchson is a known action star at this point, with his primary road to popularity coming from the Prime Video show Reacher. Thus, Ritchson has proven his ability to elevate streaming-first content, boding well for the Christmas action flick. The bigger of the two main stars, though, is, of course, Schwarzenegger. From Terminator to The Expendables, Schwarzenegger is now best known for his high-octane action work.
Now 78 years old, he is at a place in his career where he is an apt but still hilarious choice to be playing Santa Claus.
