A father of two who retired from the U.S. Army has taken to patrolling the streets of his children's school district in Texas.

Anthony Triplett has two daughters in the North Thurston School District and now spends roughly 20 hours a week patrolling the streets near all its schools. Triplett dons an"Army Overwatch" vest and a handgun in his hip holster, all while walking his service dog Jude. He medically retired from the service in 2018.

He hasn't taken any action during his patrols so far. However, a district spokesperson claimed that a"handful" of parents have complained about Triplett.“What’s the better alternative we can do, right now to keep our kids safe?” Triplett said in a television interview. “I don’t cost anything, I’m licensed, I’m trained, and I’m ready.”

Meanwhile, Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza said there's no need for Triplett's help securitywise because there are already school resource officers at all locations who are trained to protect students there.Triplett said he began his patrol after his daughters showed concern following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, earlier this year.
