The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network said the quake was not big enough to meet the alert threshold, but it was detected by the ShakeAlert system. explains that earthquakes happen everyday in Washington state, but most are too small to be felt.
You should also know your area to determine if you may be at risk for a landslide or tsunami that could potentially cause more damage than the actual earthquake. While determining that risk, ask yourself if your home is secured to its foundation, if there’s items in your home that could be better secured, and if your home was built to withstand the amount and type of ground-shaking you could see if a large earthquake were to happen.
