BATU PAHAT: Two men have been arrested by the police for allegedly committing armed robberies at a snooker outlet and mobile phone shop here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the helmet-wearing suspects were believed to have used a parang and sickle to rob a snooker outlet in Parit Sulong at 9pm on Saturday .

"They went on to the mobile phone shop about half an hour later, where one of the suspects also beat up a worker there, leaving him with minor injuries to the head. "About six hours after receiving separate police reports about the incidents, we arrested the two suspects, aged 26 and 29, in the Parit Sulong area.

"Both of them tested positive for methamphetamine and benzodiazepine," he said, adding that police recovered stolen money amounting to RM3,025, mobile phones as well as a parang and sickle.ACP Ismail said the suspects have been remanded for five days under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and possible caning if convicted.
