Aurora police have detained a suspect in an armed carjacking that led to a fatal crash Sunday evening.

A driver was killed in the crash at Dayton Street and 19th Avenue after the suspect fled police in a stolen vehicle, according to an Aurora Police DepartmentOfficers around 7 p.m. had responded to an Aurora 911 report of an armed carjacking near 23rd Avenue and Dallas Street, the police said.

Aurora traffic investigators went to the scene Sunday night, closing 19th Avenue around the intersection with Dayton, and Dayton between Montview and 17th Avenue, while they looked into what happened. A 17th Judicial District team, Aurora homicide, and gang and robbery investigators also went to the scene, police said.
