Arlington police arrested Derreck Dean, 36, on sexual assault and oppression charges after an investigation into alleged contact with a woman.
Arlington police arrested an officer for charges of sexual assault and oppression of a woman whom investigators said he met on a previous call. Derreck Dean, 36, was taken into custody on Friday by members of APD's Fugitive Unit and was transported to the Tarrant County Jail.
On April 18, Arlington police said the department received a report alleging that Dean had inappropriate sexual contact with a woman he had first encountered during an earlier call for service. APD said the department immediately launched simultaneous criminal and administrative investigations into the report. Dean was then placed on administrative leave on April 21, which officials said was his next scheduled on-duty shift.
Police said that during the investigation, detectives learned that Dean initially responded to a call for service at the woman’s home on April 11. Between the morning of April 17 and the early morning hours of April 18, he returned to her home three separate times, including the visit during which the alleged sexual contact occurred.
APD said Dean was on duty at the time and that none of the return trips to the woman’s home were in response to calls for service. Dean remains on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the administrative investigation. He has been employed by the Arlington Police Department since 2016.
"The department takes this matter extremely seriously and is currently looking into whether any other instances of misconduct may have occurred," APD stated in a press release. Police are asking anyone with additional information or allegations involving Dean to call Arlington PD Detective Jacklyn Donalson at 817-459-5632.
