Police said a man set his house on fire and then fired a gun at his wife. An Arlington officer was burned trying to pull him to safety.
An Arlington police officer was burned in a house fire while responding to a domestic violence call.It happened on Monday afternoon as the officer was responding to reports of a shooting at a house on Connolly Terrace, which is near Collins Street and Park Row Drive.Police said a 61-year-old man with a history of mental health issues set a fire behind his house. When his wife confronted him and told him to put it out, he reportedly grabbed a gun and shot at her.
The woman was grazed by a bullet but was able to make it to a neighbor's house to call 911.By the time officers arrived at the home, the fire was spreading to the house.Arlington police said officers located the suspect under a pile of burning brush in his backyard.One officer pulled the man to safety, and he was burned in the process.The officer was treated and later released from the hospital.The suspect suffered serious burns and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
