Arlington, Alexandria experiencing problems with 911 systems
Arlington and Alexandria resolved problems with their 911 systems Saturday that had been preventing residents from making voice calls to the emergency line, an official said.
The glitch was fixed about 2:15 p.m. and residents in both jurisdictions were able to place 911 calls normally, said Hannah Winant, public affairs manager with Arlington County Emergency Management.Arlington announced problems with its 911 system around 12:40 p.m. and Alexandria around 1 p.m. Winant said officials are still trying to determine the exact nature of the problem. The Arlington and Alexandria systems are connected.
Officials in both jurisdictions urged residents to report emergencies on non-emergency lines and by other means during the outage. Ashley Savage, a spokeswoman for the Arlington police department, wrote in an email the outage wasn’t affecting emergency responders and a spokesman for the Alexandria police said the same thing while it was ongoing.
“The technical difficulties to voice 9-1-1 have not impacted the County’s ability to dispatch police, fire and EMS services,” Savage wrote. “The Police Department has not experienced operational impacts related to this.”
